And I love DirecTV for letting me experience it. I’ve been addicted all day. Click here to find the MLB Network on your television.
For those of you that either don’t get it or haven’t tuned in yet, the network aired classic game footage and a slideshow of pictures for much of the day before launching at 6 p.m. with Hot Stove Show (which featured Barry Larkin). The sets are beautiful and complex. Jimmy Rollins was the special in studio guest. They re-enacted and discussed Jackie Robinson’s famous steal of home in the 1955 World Series. Later, Josh Hamilton joined to discuss his comeback.
Now, the network is airing Don Larsen’s perfect game from the 1956 World Series with breaks to talk to Larsen and Yogi Berra…the footage features Mel Allen and Vin Scully calling the game and superstars like Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson and more…unbelievable.
Like I said, I love the MLB Network.

I’m also excited about the network. Haven’t yet had the opportunity to see it as we’re in the process of getting cable installed (we’re kinda late on the whole getting with the millennium program thing). Looking forward to all baseball, all the time after that! For those who missed the perfecto, it looks like it’s slated be broadcast again on January 14.

The Perfect game last night was great…to see all those HOFers — Mantle, Snyder, Campanella, Berra, etc. in action was geat. The MLB Network is a baseball junkie’s (which includes me) dream…I don’t yet have HD TV, but this may be the tipping point I was waiting for…
Now if we can just get the Nats to do something to be mentioned on the HotStove program, we will be in business.

I agree with everything you’ve said Kristen. I don’t know if I am quite addicted yet, but the sets are beautiful, and I’m looking forward to seeing what offerings they give fans.
After watching the MLB Network briefly last night, I’ll have trouble deciding between them and ESPN’s Baseball Tonight’s coverage.

I viewed the Don Larsen perfect game last evening. I remember as a 9yr old Yankee fan watching the game on TV. I never thought that almost all of the broadcast was archived. I especially enjoyed the commercials that aired as part of the broadcast in ‘56. It’s amazing what $1 could buy from Gillette.
It was disappointing to realize how few of the partiicipants are still alive. But I found it ironic that the battery, Larsen and Yogi, are still with us and healthy, thus permitting their comments and recollections to add to the broadcast.

Yes, it is very cool. They have already repeated programs though (showed the Don Larsen perfect game again this morning) and it seems like they would expand a bit on the 2nd official day.
And tonight is all about the @#$%$# Red Sox (which they show again tomorrow morning) and then does right into the Phillies. Booooo….. http://mlb.mlb.com/network/schedule/
I will stick to the “Inside the Moments” for now and skip the rest until Monday.

I have Verizon FIOS up in Maryland. After checking at mlb.com, I guess I’m outta luck.

Oh well, at least I have MASN, and can savor Bob Carpenter’s trenchant analysis.

I hadn’t seen it on the schedule but the Larsen game was broadcast again this afternoon. I caught the last three innings (well, actually, Yogi caught them and I watched). I also enjoyed Larsen and Berra’s reflections.

Hmm, I have FIOS in VA and I get it. Must just be a state superiority thing =P
I like the MLB network a lot, but I’m sick of seeing the Phillies in the World Series, so I’ve been having to avoid it during most hours of the day.

Yeah, I kept clicking over to the network the other day, only to see the Phillies WS. Yuck.

Not to sound like a broken record, but I LOVE THE MLB NETWORK!! Is anyone watching this interview with Boras?!
January 6th, 2009 at 7:44 am
No I missed that one. Was watching another channel and clicked over to find that they were doing the NL East Hot Stove but I’d missed the Nats segment. That’s what a get for being clicker-happy, I guess.

We watched Prime 9 last night for centerfielders and homeruns. It was fun to guess them first and see how close we were - we did pretty well! Griffey Jr. was #6 top centerfielder of all time.

My bad. (Actually my GOOD)
It turns out Verizon FIOS in Maryland DOES have MLB network, at least as of today— on channel 86. Al Leiter and a couple other former players were debating about the Yankee$’ spending splurge. Good stuff. I always like Al Leiter as a player. He’s really articulate too.

I’m hopelessly addicted. Did anyone see the first part Ken Burns’ Baseball last night? I thought it was fantastic and can’t wait to see more!
January 8th, 2009 at 10:36 am
I missed the first Baseball installment. Having seen it before, my husband voted for “Dirty Jobs,” so we watched that. So far Prime 9 is one of my faves. I’m looking forward to when they do the top 9 characters (next week, I think). Bill Lee’s gotta be in there somewhere.

Maybe Mark Fidrych as well.
