So, by now you’ve seen the new jerseys. What do you think? Here’s our photoset. Chico Harlan also has a cool video interview with Manny Acta from yesterday’s event.
Speaking of Manny, yesterday’s event started like this:
Charlie Slowes: Manny, how are ya?
Manny Acta: Super.
Charlie Slowes: Super, fantastic?
Manny Acta: Who carved the pumpkin?
Manny Acta: I gotta see you after the show.
So, we talked for a few minutes afterward about it and he was less than happy with the voting results. He told Lastings that if he could hit 30 homers next year, he could have his face on a pumpkin too.
In other news, no more mattress shuffle at the park…I preferred Abe’s card tricks anyway.
Bill Ladson says Chad Cordero is also drawing interest from the Angels, a team Cordero grew up cheering for.
The Nationals also have launched a new Season Ticket Partner Zone which allows you to get in touch with other fans who are interested in sharing a season ticket plan. Check it out at www.nationals.com/partnerzone.
Last but not least, here’s a troubling quote from Keith Law’s Chat….Thanks to Anthony from Oriole Post for passing it on:
Charlie (Bethesda, MD): Are Josh Smoker or Colten Willems going to be any good?
Keith Law: Both guys have lost velocity since signing. There is so much going wrong in that organization that I don’t know where to start. Two people - one FO person, one writer - told me at the GM meetings that “Bowden must have pictures of someone” to still have his job. And oh, by the way, Bowden blew off the designated meet-the-media times both days and apparently bragged about intending to do so.

That is great the Acta singled you out for the pumpkin. I like what he said to Milledge too, but hitting .325 might have been a better suggestion.

I really like the gray unis but not too big of a fan of the blue ones….Looks like the event had a pretty decent turnout and you got some good facetime with Manny…Hopefully Milledge being there doesn’t mean that he has overtaken Zimmy as the face of the franchise.

That is cool that Manny asked about the pumpkin artiste. Maybe the voting was rigged, as yours was great (and so was your friend’s). Recount, anyone?
I’m also partial to the road unis, and I’m okay with the red ones (our guys tended to win in the old alternate reds), although the W and DC fonts seem to clash a bit. The blue one seems too busy. Phil Wood pointed out on Nats320 that the size of the DC logo was part of the reason for that, and I think it’s a good point.

Good, I never liked the mattress shuffle.
