Much of the fanfare tonight surrounded the ending of the 77-year Cooper Stadium era for the AAA Columbus Clippers. It culminated with some uninspired play by the Clippers, leaving a 3-0 deficit on the scoreboard when it was over against the visiting Toledo Mudhens.
A crowd of over 16,000, near capacity for Cooper Stadium, was treated to all the hospitality the Clippers could serve up: dime-a-dogs, commemorative posters, drawings for replica stadiums, and a post-game running of the bases (just to name a few), but the Clippers could only manage 5 hits.
The Mudhens strung together three doubles in the 7th off Clipper pitcher Tyler Clippard, knocking in all three of their runs in the process. Mudhens pitcher Virgil Vasquez threw a complete game, notching 10 strikeouts along the way.
CF Jorge Padilla went 2-4 with a double. Leonard Davis, Frank Diaz, and Luke Montz had singles. Mustard won the hot dog race.
