The Nats have informed season ticket holders of a special Picnic in the Park appreciation event set for Saturday, September 20 from noon to 3 pm.
Season ticket holders will enjoy an afternoon of player autographs, player photos, balloon artists, Q&A’s with players and coaches and a bounce house. Fans will have the opportunity to run the bases, throw a pitch in the bullpen and walk through the dugout. In addition, all fans will be treated to a complimentary hot dog, chips and a soda.
On field activities are weather permitting. Parking will be available first-come, first-serve at the park and Nats Express shuttles will run from RFK Stadium.
The deadline to RSVP is Friday, September 12 at 5 p.m.

Kristen,
Take a break and listen to the song in Damn Yankees your site is named for. When things get real bad I read the book it came from. I waited 34 years for them to come back and I can be real patient. Bad baseball is better than no baseball. Who knows maybe they’ll fire Bowden at the end of the year.
You gotta have heart.

“Fans will have the opportunity to run the bases, throw a pitch in the bullpen”
so this is like an open tryout right? cuz i don’t know how else they will fill the spots when the active rosters expand next month….

That’s interesting. I’ve not read the book, but I have a DVD of the movie and sometimes during a rough stretch I like to watch the “Heart” scene (and, yes, I know that there are people who think that it’s sappy).

Guy, What’s the book?
Rob, we joked in our office earlier this year that they should have done a “Put Me In Coach: Play Left Field” promotion where a new fan rotated into that spot each inning.
Nats Fan, It’s not sappy. It just felt like fans were the only ones showing any heart this season. Maybe not after last night!

Thanks, Kristen. I agree that our guys seem to be showing a lot of heart lately!
I think that Guy was referring to The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant, by Douglass Wallop.

I’ll have to check it out. Thanks!

The Douglas Wallop book was the one I was referring to. Hard to find but worth it.
