MLB Trade Rumors reports that recently released Nats catcher Paul Lo Duca is headed to the Marlins AAA Albuquerque team.
Yeah, we missed recapping the awesome double header win in Denver. Congrats to the guys. We’re impressed and thrilled with the new attitude.

Good riddence to LoDuca. That’s probably too harsh,I guess. He seemed to be a good team guy. But,along with Estrada as a horrible, over paid signing. I wish they could get out of paying Austin Kears, what, 9$ mill next year? That’s insanity. That’s Jim Bowden and his Man Love for these ex Reds. A waste of $$$$$$$$$.

I was rushed to get something up and completely forgot to re-emphasize how happy I was to see him go. Problem with Estrada and Lo Duca is that we just wasted all that money. Fans were irritated from the get-go with those signings and the plan to keep Flores in AAA.
There’s a good discussion going over at Nationals Journal about why Kearns is still the cleanup hitter. Personally, I like Kearns well enough, but I think his struggles go under the radar all the time. He never gets put on the spot about his mediocrity like everyone else. Maybe cause he was overhyped all along. Maybe he’s baking the reporters brownies. Who knows. People used to say “he’s a good defensive outfielder.” I thought “that’s nice, but where’s the power numbers we were promised?” After watching Milledge in CF, I’ve learned to appreciate Austin’s defensive prowess, but his numbers will never be what Jim sold them to be in mid 2006.

LoDuca and Estrada weren’t good signings. One, because Flores WAS ready, obviously, and the FO missed that, and two, because they were hurt, and didn’t play well—played like crap, mostly, when they played at all.
But WADR, all *what* money? Nothing bad (for the fans) came of them *overpaying* for 2 catchers they didn’t need anyway. It’s not like the $1.25M or whatever they gave Estrada to go away was going toward anything else, or like that’s big money in MLB. The $5M (more or less) for LoDuca, likewise, didn’t keep anyone else out—having him here in the first place did, regardless of what they paid him—could have been the MLB minimum, doesn’t matter. And since it isn’t my money, it’s not my problem. It was a roster misjudgement, but not a budget problem. They’ve GOT the money.

Right - so let’s see them use it to nail down these draft picks this week.
