Why? You tell me. Does this move make any sense? Last night, a surge of youth. Make way for the future. Move out of the way vets. Today, ship Mock to AAA? What am I missing?
That gives us Ayala and Colome for blow outs, Shell and Manning for middle innings, Rivera for late inning work, Hanrahan for closing. Eleven pitchers.
From the Nats:
Mock, 25, went 0-2 with a 5.27 ERA in five games, including two starts, with the Nationals.

What you’re missing is that Mock didn’t allow a run in his three relief appearances.
Why they are sticking with Colome, who is not only a bad veteran but is excruciating to watch with his glacial pace, is beyond me.
For that matter, why they didn’t trade Odalis to give the rotation spot to Mock is beyond me as well.
Congrats, by the way, on being quoted on Nats Pregame tonight. Ray Knight may not have agreed with you that Lo Puca shouldn’t have been signed in th first place, but then again he’s a company man.

Maybe the idea is to keep Mock focused on starting every fifth day, knowing that he’s likely to be in the rotation on Opening Day 09 if not sooner? I think Colome and Ayala are both better than their ERAs say this year, so I’m not close to ready to cut them loose. Shell and Manning haven’t done anything to deserve the demotion.
Anyway, fun to meet you guys yesterday! We have a great group of people in the Natmosphere.
