After watching Saturday’s loss at the stadium, Kristen and I decided to head west and test our luck at Charles Town Races and Slots. I’ve never been to the racetrack before, but seeing as it’s a favorite activity of catcher Paul Lo Duca, I figured it couldn’t be too hard.
After Jesus Flores’ two run homer and his .500 batting average, I had to go with horse number 3 - Golden Stag - to win the 7th race. Turns out I bet well, Golden Stag was the upset winner and I walked away with some cash. Lo Duca wasn’t so lucky with the horses or his plate appearances this weekend. He’s 2-14 and his horse Golden Spikes finished second on Saturday. Too bad, Paul, guess you could have used some of my good luck huh? Apparently Lo Duca and the other owners have to decide if they want to enter the horse in the Kentucky Derby or not.
“Obviously it’d be a thrill to go to the Derby, but you don’t want to hurt the horse. You want to make sure it’s the right thing for the horse.”
Kristen got lucky also. As 7-7-Double Jackpot popped up on her slot machine, Kristen’s eyes lit up. Folks around stopped to watch. Later Kristen informed us all that as the credits were flying into her account, she wasn’t thinking in dollar signs. ”Great, tickets in the right field terrace. Bullpen seats. Left field. Center field. Dugout seats. PNC Diamond Club!!” Only a baseball fan measures their slot machine winnings in baseball tickets, but at a Home Run slot machine, who could expect anything else.
Let’s hope our baseball luck carries over into this week!
