Sure you’ve already heard about it — but President Bush has accepted the invitation to throw the first pitch at new Nationals Park. Love him or hate him, we’re pretty excited about him continuing this great tradition, which honors the American pastime and kicks off a new era of baseball in DC in our new home.
“I never dreamed about being President, I wanted to be Willie Mays.” – George W. Bush
Here’s the White House photoset from the president’s pitch in 2005.

i agree it is a great tradition and I’m glad President Bush is going to be there to toss one over the plate. As long as he doesn’t unfurl a banner proclaiming “Mission Accomplished” when he is finished, it should be a good day for all concerned. Baseball should transcend partisanship even in an election year and whatever you think about it, President Bush is one of the most authentic baseball loving presidents in recent memory, perhaps in history.
