It wasn’t exactly the same (we won)…but who couldn’t think back to our last meeting with Bronson Arroyo during tonight’s game. Maybe he should stick to singing.
Back in May…
With his game-opening single, Lopez started one of Washington’s biggest rallies of the season. The Nationals sent 10 batters to the plate in a 20-minute, 49-pitch inning against Bronson Arroyo, who lasted only two innings.
Tonight, Arroyo stayed through 1 and 2/3 innings - giving up 7 runs. Those 7 runs came in the first two innings off huge rallies. Dmitri brought in the first run with a single, Kearns doubled to bring in another run, and Church added 2 more with a single.
In the 2nd inning, Belliard had a RBI double followed by an Austin Kearns blast to OUR SECTION!
Meanwhile, Lannan shined in his first game at RFK.
The young starter pitched 5 and 2/3 innings and gave up only 2 runs. The bullpen came through with no surprises. King, Schroder, Rauch and Ayala finished the night in their typical fashion. Note: Schroder’s ERA stands at 1.25 and Ayala’s is at 2.70.
Nats fans were also excited to see a run-down in the first inning between Ryan Zimmerman, Felipe Lopez and Norris Hopper. Ryan dove at Hopper making contact and getting the out.
One more interesting part of the night:American Idol contestant Elliott Yamin was in the crowd to cheer on the Nats. He was interviewed by Debbie Taylor and sang God Bless America.
