First baseman Dmitri Young is close to signing a two-year extension with the Nationals, according to multiple sources. The move would come a few days after the team signed infielder Ronnie Belliard to an extension.
What are your thoughts?

You gotta have heart, all you really need is heart. When the odds are sayin' you'll never win, that's when the grin should start.

I hope he stays for sure. In just half a season D Young has become a great boost for the Nationals. He fits in well with the team and his bat is just what we need in key moments. It would be nice to have a couple of veterans. Please save DA MEAT!!

Be a vegetarian…SAVE DA MEAT
I love D and his jolly smile…even if he is smiling at fans while a batter is in the box…haha.

At first I thought it wasn’t the smartest move the front office could have made. The extension means if his production collapses, the team gets 0 prospects or draft picks for him. Also, thinking about the Meat Hook playing OF makes me nauseous. His 1B skills are among the worst in the league (in fact there was an ESPN article in June proclaiming him as the worst defensive 1B in all of baseball), it should be quite a sight seeing him run after fly balls in the outfield when Nick Johnson comes back.
But the more I thought about it, the more I understood the decision. He obviously has a very engaging personality making him the most marketble Nat (besides Zim of course) that we have. I’m drooling over a Meat Hook shirt night or even bobblehead night (thats one that will be sitting on the desk for a verrry long time). Also, its not like the farm system is busting with any young prospects who are ready to become big league stars and replace Dmit. Although I shudder at the thought of him running around in the outfield (although we know he will hustle after every ball) I’m still glad we’re gonna keep Dmit and his 330 BA as well as his great personality.
I will be dreaming of my Meat Hook bobblehead tonight and if anybody knows where I can buy a Meat Hook shirt please post.
