I meant to have these up prior to this series with the Indians, but baseball games kind of got in the way of getting them scanned.
My grandmother grew up in Cleveland. Recently, I found out that her and her friends used to try to get to Indians’ games early to talk to (and my grandfather adds “smile at”) the players. I had no idea that she had these photographs all of her life…pictures of the 1948 World Series Champions, the Cleveland Indians.
Included in her pictures — the legendary Bill Veeck, Hall of Famer Lou Boudreaux and Ray Boone.

Those are great pictures (and almost 60 years old)! Picture number 1 must be Ray Boone, because I can see the resemblance to his son Bob, now a Nats Exec.
Great shots of Cleveland Stadium (the mistake by the Lake, a cavernous park built in an attempt to win the 1932 Olympic Games for Cleveland - Los Angeles won instead).
Bill Veeck is the man next to the car in picture #11. He was the greatest team owner in baseball history, and really forced the stodgy game forward as much as he could during pre-Curt Flood days. He was still stirring things up when he owned the Chicago White Sox 30 years after this picture was taken.

Jim,
Thanks for your help with figuring out which players are featured. I recognized Bill Veeck and thought I recognized Boone too. Isn’t it amazing to see great baseball photos from all those years ago!
